You find it hard to grasp and understand new concepts?

It is so bad that you just don’t start doing any work in front of you, You would rather do something fun with your time and procrastinate away.

Today I would Introduce you to a FREE COURSE on Learning how to learn

“Is it True that The More You Learn, The More You Earn ?”

Read Omar Moonis’ answer to Is it true that the more you learn the more earn? on Quora

That should give you a review on why learning is so important.

If you agree that Learning is of great important (as you had to learn everything from languages, driving a car, even walking) these are skills you are not born with.

How important is it then to Learn To learn properly should be one major skill you should Learn as this can open a world of opportunity to you.

Why You Are Scared of Learning?

Why You Are Scared Of LearningOne Major reason you are scared of learning is the fear of failure(especially if you consider yourself a perfectionist) and as such want to get things right the very first time

Even things you just started learning. This can lead to a lot of inaction and this is true most especially if you are trying to build a business online which requires you as an entrepreneur to learn new skills.

This inaction would reveal itself in different forms of procrastination and overthinking which leads to more anxiety and depression could set in if you let it.

I know this because I have lived and struggled with this through my one year of trying to build a business online.

This year has been all about “learning” for me and while I reviewed my year (yes I am reviewing the growth I have experienced in 2019 which I am thankful for) as you should too. I discovered one thing.

I should be farther along in my journey with the amount of things i have learned if I was not such a procrastinator!

When you learn a new skill and don’t put it into practice immediately, you tend to overthink how much time it would take and this initial anxiety activates the same regions in your brain that’s activated when you feel pain.

It has been proven that scientifically to that once you start on that task, the initial trepidation goes away and you get better with time and practice.

I needed new ways to learn not just faster but better. This journey on personal growth and development i started as a means to better know and understand myself and to learn skills to make money passively online.

One problem that has hindered my growth this year like i said would be “Procrastination” !

Procrastination

Yes – It really does not do anything for you rather it prevents you from getting things on done.

When I learned a new skill (Copywriting, Email Marketing, Content creation etc) or concept or watched a new webinar i should take action on massively, I would take too long being scared to start (overthinking) instead of just putting in the work.

There are days i would make a to do list and not be able to do anything worthwhile, I would postpone activities to be done on Mondays to the weekend thinking I would have more time and when the weekend came around i would postpone those same activities to the weekday, this could go on for a month before i finally got angry at myself and tried to put to practice what I had been postponing

After the initial struggle to Get started, the anxiety evaporates and I am doing what I had been scared to do.

A good example of this was getting my upwork profile approved. After months of procrastination I put in the work of building my profile the right way and finally I have another source of income stream (Isn’t that what we all want? )

With the new knowledge I was getting, I knew I needed a way to learn and practice the skills I had been learning if i was going to be successful.

Course syllabus – What you will learn from this course

This course is broken down into videos, reading and quizzes totally 12 hours

The course syllabus is as follows:

  • Week 1: What is Learning? (4 Hours to complete) – 14 videos (Total 109 min), 4 readings, 3 quizzes

Although living brains are very complex, this module uses metaphor and analogy to help simplify matters. You will discover several fundamentally different modes of thinking, and how you can use these modes to improve your learning. You will also be introduced to a tool for tackling procrastination, be given some practical information about memory, and discover surprisingly useful insights about learning and sleep.

  • Week 2: Chunking ( 3 hours to Complete) – 11 videos (Total 77 min), 1 reading, 3 quizzes

In this module, You will learn more about chunks. Chunks are compact packages of information that your mind can easily access. We’ll talk about how you can form chunks, how you can use them to improve your understanding and creativity with the material, and how chunks can help you to do better on tests. We’ll also explore illusions of competence in learning, the challenges of over learning, and the advantages of interleaving.

  • Week 3: Procrastination and Memory (4 hour to complete) – 14 videos (Total 106 min), 1 reading, 4 quizzes

In this module, we talk about two intimately connected ideas—procrastination and memory. Building solid chunks in long term memory–chunks that are easily accessible by your short term memory—takes time. This is why learning to handle procrastination is so important. Finally, we talk about some of the best ways to access your brain’s most powerful long term memory systems.

  • Week 4: Renaissance Learning and Unlocking Your Potential ( 4 hours to complete) – 16 videos (Total 140 min), 3 readings, 3 quizzes

In this module we’re going to talk more about important ideas and techniques that will enhance your ability to learn. You’ll also discover how to more profitably interact with fellow learners, how to recognize your own strengths, and how to avoid the “imposter syndrome.” Fighter pilots and surgeons use checklists to help them with their critical duties—you can use a similar checklist to help you prepare for tests. Ultimately, you will learn more about the joys of living a life filled with learning!

  1. Presently, with the rush we are in, most people just want to earn without learning and often times they forget that you can only earn by the impact you’ve created in other people’s lives. I once engaged in a job I knew little about.. It was until I completed the training process that I was able to get full benefits. Sometimes our learning today makes our earning for tomorrow even better. Thanks for the review

    1. You’re Welcome Benny!

I can totally relate to this, i have had instances where i took on and quit a job because i didn’t have training on it.

Learning really saves you a lot of headache and is the preparation we all need to succeed.

  2. The process of learning is one that need you to give in your all and be ready to bend just to gain what you have planned to achieve. One problem faced by so many people is the issue of procrastination indeed. This may be challenging especially to teenagers but it takes a little practice to get this things right and be good when it comes to the process of learning.

  3. At first I was a little confused as to the topic of learning and then learning as the title said.  Now that I have read through the article it makes a lot of sense to me.  I have always had the issue of not learning the proper way to go about different parts of life while choosing the best way or correct way to learn.  It looks like this would be helpful for people who can’t stay focused on the tasks that they are trying to do.  What did you say procrastination is one of the biggest things to learn to get rid of?  When you took the time to go through the course do you think your have a better understanding on keeping motivated at each task and finishing in a timely matter?  Does this help with younger people just out of high school that are headed to college?  As far as showing them the best way to set some goals and keep the motivation and learning the best possible way to keep them at the best learning abilities as possible.  This was a lot of great info and looks like a fun course with some great teachers to show us how to learn and in a fast manner.  Thank you very much.

    Douglas

    1. hello douglas:)

Using The “Pomodoro” technique(learned from the course) I have been able to cut down on my procrastination and get things started,

I do have a better understanding of staying motivated and finishing my tasks by breaking them into bits and pieces

This course is great for younger people(especially).

  4. Everyone has different learning styles.  Some people are auditory people like myself that learn best by listening.

when I was in university I would study by converting my study notes to audio form and listen to them over and over.

some people are introverted and prefer to study by themselves. Others are extroverts and want to study with friends

  5. Thank you so much for sharing this. The course really does sound good; I can not believe something like that is free. This really is an offer I can’t miss. I love to learn new things. Where can I sign up for it? I will buy the book too, but I like audio also because when I can’t read, I love to listen to courses. Can’t wait to start. Thank you.

    Have a nice day.

  6. Yes, You are right. The more we learn the more we will earn it is 100% correct in my opinion. Now a days I am also learning online course and finding something new which will give an impact on my life. Your post is full of energy. I will soon buy this book. I hope it will help me to grow my business on much faster way.

  7. Hi,

Really interesting article, I wouldn’t say I have a problem with learning; but anything that I can do to speed up my time to learn things is welcomed knowledge.

I love a Ted talk and watched the video in full which is always a good sign. I’ll check out the Barbara Oakley book as well. I work in affiliate marketing & this market is ever changing, so the quicker I can learn things, the more successful my business will be.

  8. I like the course based on what has been described in the course syllabus. But since our internet connection here isn’t that good for video lessons, I want to inquire if there is a written or printed transcript of the video lessons that I can follow-up with my learning? And something I can read offline when I am not connected with the Internet.

    1. hello Gomer,

There is a written transcript of each video that you can read.

Or you can buy the book from amazon from the link in the post.

  9. I once saw a quote that keeps me learning new stuffs, it says “LEARN first before you can EARN”… So it is true that the more I learn, the more I can earn because learning gives knowledge and this knowledge can be used to solve other people’s problems and problem solving equals making money.

It is incredible to see that this course which teaches us how to learn (Learning How to Learn) is absolutely free. This must be a kind and generous act by Dr. Barbara Oakley. One of my major problem has been procrastination; well I’m currently winning over it.

    Best wishes!

  10. I really enjoyed reading your blog post about learning how to learn.  I think we all have fears that keep us stuck and in a place of stagnation  It looks like your free course is a great idea and something I plan enrolling in as I have definitely been procrastinating in a couple of areas in my professional life.  One area being learning how to write better copy along with taking the leap into creating video content.
